5 Video Games by Chinese Developers

With thousands of video games available for gamers worldwide, there are notable number of them that you may have played without knowing that they were developed by Chinese developers.

Here are some well-known games produced by Chinese companies:

1. Clash of Kings by Elex Tech

Clash of Kings was one of the top grossing apps on both the Google Play and App Store. It’s a Chinese video and mobile multiplayer strategy game that was developed and published by Elex Tech in June 2014.

Founded in 2008, Elex Technology Co., Ltd has become one of the top game companies in China for game development, publishing, and operations that aims to cater to the international market. 

 

2. Heroes Evolved by NetDragon Websoft

Heroes Evolved is a global strategy and action game that features more than 100 unique designs of playable heroes that the gamers can choose. The players can try out various play styles like tank, assassin, support, warrior, and power skills as they take part in a 5-member team that aims to destroy rival towers.

This is also available with 3v3, 1v1, custom mode, and other multiplayer battle modes. The players will be able to meet new friends from all over the world through the game since it has multi-language support — with even more languages in the works. 

Founded in 1999, NetDragon Websoft is a Chinese company based in Fuzhou, China that develops and operates multiplayer online games and mobile applications. 

 

3. Honor of Kings by Tencent Games

If you want a battle arena game, look no further than Honor Kings, a multiplayer online game that was developed by one of Tencent Games development studios, TiMi Studios. In the game, the player controls a character that carries unique abilities to kill non-player characters and opponents to gain experience and gold to unlock more abilities, level up power, and purchase more items in the shop. 

There’s even an international version of the game called, Arena of Valor, which utilizes the same game engine but features costume designs and settings that cater more to the West.

Mostly known for being the largest video games publisher in the world, Tencent has four internal game development studios: TiMi Studio Group, Lightspeed & Quantum Studio Group, and Morefun Studio Group, and Aurora Studio. 

4. Identity V by NetEase Games

Interested in playing the first asymmetrical horror computer game? That would be Identity V.  The game starts as the player takes on the role of Detective Orpheus. The story starts when the detective receives a mysterious letter, inviting him to investigate an abandoned manor and solve the case of a missing girl. On top of the suspenseful storyline, the game also features gothic visuals. 

Developed and published by NetEase, the multiplayer game made its release in July 2018 for mobile devices and later, on PC. NetEase, Inc. is a Chinese Internet technology company that provides online services and was founded in 1997 by Chinese entrepreneur Ding Lei. Based in Hangzhou, China, its services include advertising, email, and e-commerce, most especially developing and operating online PC and mobile games. 

 

5. Ether Saga Odyssey by Perfect World Games

Ether Saga Odyssey (ESO) is heavily based on the Chinese novel, Journey to the West, which depicts Chinese folk tales, mythical creatures, and religion. The game, developed by Perfect World Games, is available on Windows.

Perfect World Games is a Chinese video game developer and publisher that specializes in multiplayer online role-playing games. Founded in 2004 by Human Software Corporation President Chi Yufeng, the Huzhou-based company aims to develop and market games with Chinese characteristics.
