Another year, another great list of C-dramas on Tencent Video!
Tencent Video (腾讯视频) is a Chinese video streaming website owned by Tencent that officially launched with an independent domain last April 2011. Not only do they offer Chinese entertainment dramas, but they also have Chinese documentaries and even British dramas.
Tencent Video also produced well-known dramas, such as A Love So Beautiful, Le Coup de Foudre, The Untamed, The Song of Glory, and many more.
As Tencent Video releases their lineup for next year, C-drama fans all over the world are crying because of the strong casts and storylines they got for us. Here’s a quick look at their lineup from historical dramas to an action drama and military drama:
Historical Dramas
1) Ancient Love Poetry 千古玦尘
Adapted from the Xianxia novel, Qian Gu Jue Chen by Xing Ling, this drama is about the leader of the four immortals who falls into a deep sleep after sacrificing herself in a trial that lasted for 60,000 years. She wakes up years later with no memories, even as her former lover awaits her, after forsaking his reincarnation and waiting for her for 60,000 years.
Cast: Xu Kai as Bai Jue and Zhou Dong Yu as Shang Gu

2) The Long Ballad 长歌行
Taken from the Manhua novel by Xia Da, the story begins when Li Shi Min, an Emperor from the Tang Dynasty, kills Li Chang Ge’s family during the Xuanwu Gate Incident. As she heads to the Shuo Province disguised as a man, she hopes to raise an army to kill Li Shi Min and avenge her family.

3) Novoland: Pearl Eclipse 斛珠夫人
In this drama as part of the Novoland Series, the search for a magical pearl that can only be obtained from a young Naga girl’s tear leads to the tragic death of Merfolks. The aftermath leaves the heroine, Hai Shi, without her parents and her home. Eventually, Hai Shi meets Fang Zhu, the first official of the imperial court, and becomes his disciple. A love triangle ensues when Hai Shi becomes the personal guard of emperor Chi Zhong Xu and they fall for each other, too.

4) Legend of Fei 有匪
The adaptation of the novel, Bandits by Priest, starts off with an emperor secretly ordering the hero to form a mountain stronghold of bandits to keep the world under control. The death of the hero leads to the birth of Zhou Fei two generations later. Since her parents keep her from the outside world, she attempts to escape multiple times. One time she almost drowns until a young man, Xie Yun, saves her. On her 16th birthday, she is finally allowed to go out into the world. That’s when she runs into Xie Yun again, and they go on an adventure together.

5) The Golden Hairpin 青簪行
At the age of thirteen, the investigative prodigy, Huang Zi Xia, has already proven herself by helping her father solve crimes. At seventeen, she goes on the run because she’s accused of murdering her family to escape an arranged marriage. When she seeks help from Li Shu Bai, the Prince of Kui, she gives up her freedom to go undercover as his eunuch to stop a killer as well as a curse on the Prince.

6) Sword Snow Stride 雪中悍刀行
Another book adaptation, Snow Snow Stride chronicles the life of a young master who bears the weight of his father’s great expectations to become the king. Although the road to the throne is long and filled with obstacles, Xu Feng Nian constantly tries to improve his martial arts skills. He also leads an army in a great battle and becomes an inspiration for all in the Central Plains.

7) Douluo Continent 斗罗大陆
This historical fantasy drama centers on Tang San, a mature boy for his age with extraordinary talents. He is sent to Ruoding Acadamy at the age of six to pursue his dream of becoming a great soul master. He soon meets an orphan, Yu Xiao Gang, and they become great friends. Along their journey, their talents are noticed and they’re recruited to the Tian Dou Royal Academy. While there, Tang San discovers a long-hidden secret about his mother’s death and embarks on a mission to face his demons, save his people, and become the greatest soul master of all time. This drama is based on the novel, Dou Luo Da Lu by Tang Jia San Shao.

8) Candle in the Tomb: The Worm Valley 鬼吹灯之云南虫谷
Soon, fans can catch Candle in the Tomb: The Worm Valley, the sequel to the hits, Candle in the Tomb: The Lost Caverns and Candle in the Tomb: The Wrath of Time. In this action drama, the three main leads obtain the map of the tomb of the kings of the ancient Dian Kingdom. Viewers can follow them as they find the long-lost Chenzhu Zhu and lift the curse of erythema on a tomb raider adventure.

Military Drama
9) You Are My City and Fortress 你是我的城池营垒
If South Korea has Decendants of the Sun, then China has You Are My City and Fortress! Watch out for this military drama that follows Mi Ka, a new resident at the hospital who meets special ops agent, Xing Kelei, during an emergency rescue training. Fans may be in luck as the word is there’s a chance that this series will air as early as this December 30, 2020!
