Staying true to their mission of providing only the highest quality of medical care to their patients, Cardinal Santos Medical Center (CSMC) proudly introduces the Professor Sol Z. Alvarez Center for Digestive Diseases & Gastrointestinal Endoscopy during its inauguration last June 10.
CSMC’s newest gastrointestinal unit is named after the esteemed Professor Sol Z. Alvarez who is known for his legacy as the pioneer of all endoscopic procedures in the Philippines. He is also the founding chairman of internal medicine in CSMC and has continued to generously shared his expertise by mentoring hundreds of successful Chinoy doctors, earning him the honor of having the center named after him.
The gastroenterology unit is headed by Dr. Marivic Ilagan-Cadag who proudly shared what the newest facility has to offer for their patients. The Professor Sol Alvarez Center offers both diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures for its patients. These include procedures such as colonoscopy, ERCT and tumor ablation for therapeutic endoscopy. Patients are assured that all of these procedures are handled with state-of-the-art equipment and highly-trained specialists in pursuit of their mission of providing top-quality medical care.
Dr. Carag highlights why it is important to give proper attention to the gastrointestinal wellbeing of a person. “Many disease entities related to other organs is actually associated with unhealthy gastrointestinal tract. If you have a diseased gastrointestinal tract, you cannot absorb nutrition so you will end up being malnourished,” she said. With this, Dr. Carag reiterates that taking care of the gastrointestinal tract is just as important as taking care of the heart, kidneys and other organs.
The Prof. Sol Z. Alvarez Center for Digestive Diseases & Gastrointestinal Endoscopy is envisioned to be a center for excellence in delivering world-class patient experience and clinical outcomes, quality research and innovative training. It promises not only providing the best medical care but delivering it with the comfort of a familial warmth that the CMSC is known for.
