Carl Dy: on Using His Voice to Influence

Your level of discipline and perseverance determines your level of success.

Hearing a success story from someone who has been through a lot is truly inspiring. It makes you realize that you have to keep going and that anything is possible if you focus on your goal even if it takes time.

Carl Dy is a property investor and Director for Sales at one of the Philippines ‘ leading developers. He has 20 years of experience in the property business and is continually building his property portfolio with an ultimate goal of living on passive income.

As a Real Estate Management graduate of the Harvard Business School, he believes that property investment, just like business, is not an automatic money-generating product. Instead, one must have a passion for it, create and execute a strategy and devote time and effort for the investment to flourish.

He also offers to save and assist others who want to learn more about property investment, real estate, and other topics. He welcomes everyone, especially those curious about how real estate works, and loves to help them succeed.

Taking the Road Less Traveled

Taking the road less traveled is not an easy journey for Carl; the first thing that came to mind was “Travel.” “We grew up with a lot of fear. Fear of failing and disappointment is why we take the road usually traveled most of the time to avoid making the wrong decision. So when I read this, I said, “I would love to be on a show wherein we talk about taking the road less traveled, breaking out of the normal, and thinking outside the box.

Voice and Career Status

Carl considers his current job a blessing. He began his career as a delivery boy when he was younger, and he had to ride both jeepneys and MRT to get to his destination and deliver the items. “Coming from that place, I think the right words would be, You just keep moving forward, be better than before and be better than others and be better than expected.” Carl has carried this life motto with him since he was young, and he even learned it from his mentor, Josiah Go.

Carl also believes that when you’ve been blessed to arrive a long way from where you started, you would want to share it with others and inspire them to be better.

Advice for Someone Unsure

Carl has learned that success begins within you. Everything you have, the person you’ve become, is because you worked hard on yourself, you’ve put in the effort.

The first tip that he would give to someone unsure is to listen to yourself. “What is your passion? What do you like to do? How do you see yourself 5 or 10 years from now? Then, create a road map of your life moving forward.” On the other hand, Carl believes that it is difficult to envision a clear path when you are still undecided, which is why he encourages people to listen to seminars, podcasts, or Youtube videos.

Choosing The Road Less Traveled

Carl believes that whenever you choose a career path, you should first visualize everything before taking the risk. Then, like when planning a trip to a tourist destination, once you’ve decided where to go, you’ll start planning out your itinerary, including where you’ll go and what activities you’ll do. It’s the same thing when it comes to career planning and deciding which career path to take.

If you want to take The Road Less Traveled, find at least one mentor who shares your same values, shares your same vision, and shares your same passion so you can see where you want to go. At least find one role model, as the name says, ‘A model where you can model your life and career.’”

It is important to be balanced when deciding on and selecting a mentor. This person should be financially successful and spiritually grounded and have a good relationship with the family. Choosing a mentor is a big help in your career development because you’ll have someone guiding you along the way who has been through the same thing.
