Chinoy Chef’s Recipe: Chewy Oatmeal Cookies

Craving for something sweet? Then it’s time to learn a recipe from Chinoy baker and entrepreneur Katrine Ong as she shares the Chewy Oatmeal Cookie recipe!
Bringing her mother’s best-selling and well-loved recipes from Davao to Manila, Ong launched Recipes of Mom MNL where she got the chance to recreate and develop each recipe. The business quickly became a huge success after its launch on social media. It’s known for its best-sellers: Cream Cheese Garlic Buns, Revel Bars, and the Carrot Cake!
As for the Chewy Oatmeal Cookie, Ong describes it as “healthy, yummy and chocolatey!” What’s more, she considers it a “marriage between chocolate chip cookies and the traditional oatmeal cookies — only made yummier and less sinful.”
Here is the recipe:
Ingredients:
1 1/2 all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
2 tbsp vanilla extract
3 cups oats
1 3/4 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
Procedure:
- Mix all the dry ingredients together.
- Cream butter with brown sugar. Add white sugar.
- Next, add the eggs and then add in the vanilla.
- Mix the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients.
- Add the oats and chocolate chips.
- Form cookies in small round batches.
- Bake at 350°F for 13-14 minutes or until the sides are light brown.
“We, Fil-Chis, love to eat anything yummy,” Ong said. “Like they say, ‘ho tsia ho dim.’ We like to bond with friends and family over good food. [These] oatmeal cookies will make a good companion for your afternoon tea with angkong and ama. It’s healthy and delicious. Best of all, very easy to make. Guaranteed to make you the favorite apo!”
