The company that has consistently played major roles in revolutionizing the hardware sector in the country is turning 100. Co Ban Kiat Hardware Inc. (CBK Hardware) is kicking off its yearlong centennial celebration by renewing its commitment to provide more years of world-class hardware solutions.
Just like most successful companies in the Philippines, CBK Hardware started as a small business. It was established at the heart of Binondo, Manila’s own Chinatown, in 1920 after a series of business acquisitions initiated then by the Cobankiat family patriarch.
But CBK Hardware’s wholesale buy and sell hardware operations, like all other enterprises in the area, were hard hit when World War II took place. After the war, the company slowly resumed business by putting up a makeshift shanty, helping people rebuild their homes and establishments by supplying them with hardware materials.
In 1952, CBK Hardware was incorporated, paving the way for numerous market expansion efforts. The fourth generation of the Cobankiat family—under the helm of Johnny Cobankiat—introduced to the country the concept of retail for hardware products.
Revolutionizing the market
That led to the inauguration of Hardware Workshop as the first local hardware chain of stores. Its Coby’s Design Center covered the demand for high-end architectural hardware products. CBK Hardware also served as among the suppliers when it accredited and introduced Ace Hardware USA to Filipino consumers. Since then, the company has begun the journey of supplying the country with world-class, life-improving technological and hardware solutions.
Throughout its hundred years, CBK Hardware has achieved milestone after milestone in terms of attaining excellence through its wide-ranging portfolio of products. The company has consistently expanded its products with a common personality—the highest quality only—and guided by its vision to be the largest supplier network of the biggest brands in the global hardware industry.
