Hospital on Wheels goes to Chinatown: Fil-Chi Community partners with Cardinal Santos in launching Hospital on Wheels’ Binondo branch

“I believe that the best, smartest, and the only way to move forward is together.”

Cardinal Santos pediatrician, Dr. Joy Ty Sy, couldn’t have better encapsulated what transpired the morning of February 14 as representatives of both the Filipino-Chinese community and Cardinal Santos Medical Center (CSMC) gathered in Lucky Chinatown Mall to officially commence and celebrate the opening of CSMC’s Hospital on Wheels’ (HOW) Binondo branch.

The event saw a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing ceremony to signify CSMC’s HOW opening its doors to the Chinatown neighborhood. Hosted by Valerie Tan and co-presented by CHiNOY TV and CSMC, the event kicked off with opening remarks from Dr. Zenaida Uy, being honored that HOW – a mobile clinic which brings CSMC’s medical expertise right to people’s doorsteps – will be providing its service to the Filipino-Chinese community. It is further noted that CSMC has been the trendsetter in terms of services provided to society: “Through the HOW, we want to be your partner in taking care of your health…You don’t have to come to our hospital to avail of our services. We will go to you…”.

Congratulatory remarks were next given by representatives from the Federation Of Filipino Chinese Chambers Of Commerce & Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII), the Chinese-Filipino Business Club, and the Lucky Chinatown Mall (a.k.a. Megaworld Lifestyle Malls), who were to be among the many witnesses to the later contract signing.

This was followed by a message from Dr. Joy Ty Sy herself. She notes that advances in healthcare services, such as the HOW, have been important in society’s fight for “a shared future where a strong and resilient healthcare program exists”. She further says that this event celebrates “the true spirit of bilateralism and friendship” between CSMC and the Filipino-Chinese community in this same sense.

Afterwards was the contract signing. Those who participated were Mr. Raul Pagdanganan (CSMC President and CEO), Dr. Zenaida Uy, Ms. Marivic S. Mabuti (CSMC VP and Chief Financial Officer), Mr. Henry Tan (Chairman of Fil-Chi Media Productions Inc.), Mr. Alvin Tan (President of Fil-Chi Media Productions Inc.), and Ms. Lorraine Tan (Fil-Chi Media Productions Inc. Chief Operating Officer).

Following this were remarks from Mr. Alvin Tan, president of Fil-Chi Media Productions Inc. He shared that this event is an example of the many CHiNOY TV campaigns that highlight what the community can do in times of hardship, like this current pandemic. Tan further commended the HOW as a “more accessible way of providing health and awareness” to people in the community, further stating that CHiNOY TV is honored to be assisting CSMC in this endeavor and that there is no better way to celebrate the partnership of the CSMC and the Fil-Chi community.

Closing remarks also from Mr. Raul C. Pagdanganan, CSMC President and CEO, thanked the Fil-Chi community for its commitment towards guarding Filipino-Chinese relations and contributing to Filipino society. “May this gathering celebrate our mutual commitment towards the realization of our dream of a healthy, prosperous nation we all call home,” he concluded.

The event closed with the official opening of HOW’s Binondo branch, commemorating this with a special Chinese lion dance performed by the Philippine Ling Nam Athletic Federation.
