Falling into a slump after a breakup is normal. However, there are ways to pick yourself up and start anew.

Here are some of the things that you can do to move forward:

1. Focus on a certain goal.

One of the first things that you should do while going through a breakup is to reassess your goals in life. Focusing on a specific goal will help you keep your mind off what may be a painful breakup. This can vary from focusing on your academics to focusing on work. This may also help you not to feel overwhelmed with everything going on in your life.

2. Explore new hobbies.

Try exploring new hobbies like photography, painting, baking, or even dancing. Trying out new hobbies will help keep you entertained whenever you feel like memories of the relationship start to resurface. Having something to focus on will help make time pass by a lot faster and before you know it, you’ve already forgotten about your problem.

3. Watch Chinese dramas.

One of the most popular coping mechanisms that many people do after a breakup is binge watch new dramas while snacking on their favorite food. Doing this will definitely make time pass by without you even noticing it. What’s great about Chinese dramas is that they usually have 16-20 episodes, which means you’ll be preoccupied for a while.

4. Listen to new music and podcasts.

You can also try listening to different types of music or podcasts which may help you cope with your situation. Explore and try out new music genres. Also give some podcasts a listen, if you haven’t yet. Many are meant to be educational and fun. For instance, check out CHiNOY TV’s podcast, Rise Up with Janeena Chan. The podcast features successful Chinese-Filipinos and may empower you to reach for your goals. Previous guests include Tim Yap, Camille Co, and more.

Lastly, the most important thing to do is to move on and realize that you can rise up from this bump on the road. Moving on doesn’t necessarily mean forgetting everything. It simply means that you are ready to let go of the past and move forward.
