Meet Mrs. Universe 2020 San Juan: Cynthia Lim Huang

Who will be Mrs. Universe 2020?

Mrs. Universe is an international event for the most responsible spouse and Human Rights Forum. This year marks the 43rd annual Mrs. Universe pageant, which was created to honor and empower married women and to fight poverty and violence against women.

The pageant’s philosophy is that physical beauty is just a part of the whole allure of a person. The award is for the most honorable married woman who is between the ages of 18 to 55, has her own family and her own career, and is involved with a significant cause in favor of other people.

With this, we interviewed Mrs. Universe Philippines 2020 San Juan, Cynthia Lim Huang, about her ongoing journey as a candidate:

Why did you join Mrs. Universe?

Huang: Joining Mrs. Universe made me hesitant at first as this is something out of my comfort zone, but as Mrs. Universe holds pageants for a good cause — mixed with the words of encouragement from my friends — I decided to step out of the box and join the pageant.

Mrs. Universe 2020 San Juan, Cynthia Huang

What is your secret to looking young?

Huang: 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says, “Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God. You are not your own, for you were bought with a price.” With this in mind, one should always make sure that we are taking good care of our health, such as eating healthy food, have enough time for sleeping and resting, having a forgiving and happy heart, and most importantly, peace of mind.

Do you have a skin or hair care routine that you could share?

Huang: I only wear makeup when it’s necessary. On most days, I only apply sunblock. I use O skincare products at night and drink collagen because it’s good for the bones, hair, and nails. I also use organic shampoo and comb my hair less to prevent damage and hair loss.

What is your personal life advocacy?

Huang: My advocacy is to empower women through education. The current problem in our society is not poverty. Our high poverty rate is becoming a problem because of the lack of education, support, help, and motivation. We should be teaching children more about skills, such as sewing, cooking, carpentry, graphic design, science & technology and the like, rather than focusing on memorizing books which have little benefit, especially to those who are unfortunate and can not afford to send their children to school up until college. Some college graduates are also having a hard time finding jobs because basic life skills are not taught in schools.

Mrs. Universe candidate Cynthia Huang supports Sandy Montano, Chairperson of the Philippine Commission on Women, with her project, Mask Be the Solution.

What is the essence of being a woman?

Huang: The essence of a woman is to become a Proverb Woman. A Proverb Woman is selfless, someone who can give unconditional love, at the same time is truthful and faithful that works hard to honor God. As a Proverb Woman, one must remember and educate others that everything we have is because of God’s grace. With this in mind, we should learn to share the gospel for the good of the generation and future generations to come.

Mrs. Huang also supports Sandy Montano, Chairperson of the Philippine Commission on Women, with her project, Mask be the Solution. They aim to empower women by providing them with the livelihood of making masks during this pandemic.
