Symbolizing hope for long life, cha misua is known to be a must-eat for Chinoys on their special day, but the noodles are also delicious enough to be eaten at any time and occasion. In today’s feature are four culinary businesses that not only serve this traditional Chinoy dish but also other mouthwatering eats to customers all across the metro!

Eats Auntie Sally is a home-based online business that prepares traditional Filipino-Chinese dishes with soul and passion. Hoping to deliver the authentic, well-loved flavors that her grandmother had passed down to the family, Rachel Ann Chua launched the shop together with her mother last May.

“My mom, Sally, is the most passionate in cooking among 10 siblings, and she has continued cooking and tweaking family recipes after our ama passed away,” Chua shared. “Last February 2020, I resigned from my corporate job and decided to start this online food business together with my mom. Now, we have been operating for five months and hopefully for the years to come.”

2. Chopsticks and Spoon

Established in 1990, Chopsticks and Spoon is a food court stall that specializes in local Asian favorites such as cha misua and pancit guisado, among other dishes. Providing a friendly, affordable, and family-oriented experience in the heart of Divisoria, the business aims to serve restaurant-quality food and services with tasty meals cooked fresh from its open kitchen!

WHAT TO TRY: Chopsticks and Spoon has a vast menu of items that include Cha Misua (P600), Pancit Guisado (Bihon – P350, Mikibihon – P400), Takoyaki (P150), Lomi (P400), French Beans with Crispy Dilis (P650), Crispy Pata (P700), and Chopsticks and Spoon Fried Chicken (P600).

3. Yao’s Kitchen

Starting out as a passion project in 2016, Yao’s Kitchen is a home-based kitchen that offers customers affordable and familiar Chinoy comfort food. Its menu includes a variety of dim sum, rice toppings, and food trays all made with fresh ingredients, hard work, and love. 

“We can guarantee the quality of food we serve to our clients,” said business representative Alexandrea Yao. “Our dim sums are guaranteed pure meat—no MSG, preservatives, and extenders.”

4. The Humble Chef

This pandemic-born start-up serves classic Chinese dishes prepared by an ahma and achi duo. With original family recipes developed from over 50 years of cooking experience, The Humble Chef works to provide customers with authentic and comforting food that calls to mind the nostalgic memories of a Chinoy home. 

“Our goal is that when people eat our food, they will [remember] happy memories from their grandma’s cooking, family gatherings, and the classic Binondo cooking that they miss,” said Betrina Lee, the achi of The Humble Chef pair. 

WHAT TO TRY: The Humble Chef’s best-selling items are Ama’s Cha Misua (Small – 500, Large – P1,000), Kiampung (Small – P360, Large – P680), Hongma (with Cuapao) (Small – P350, Large – P700), and Fresh Lumpia (Small – P600, Large – P1,200).
