We’ve had a great roster of K-dramas to watch in 2020, and they’re still pouring in. With the oversaturation of K-everything in the market, you may have overlooked C-dramas or Chinese dramas that offer the same kilig factor, plus all the suspense, heart-wrenching, and hilarious moments!
We’ve picked out a few of our favorite C-dramas available on Netflix for you to watch as you wind down for the day or to binge-watch on the weekends:
1. A Love So Beautiful (2017)
Chen Xiaoxi and Jiang Chen have been neighbors since kindergarten and are classmates at Chenxi Secondary School. While Jiang Chen is popular in school, known for his good looks and high grades despite his standoffishness, Xiaoxi barely studies. But she is very vocal about her crush on Jiang Chen. Together with their friends, they get ready for their gaokao, the national college entrance examination. And we watch as they grow up and navigate their relationship with one another.
2. G0 Ahead (2020)
The story focuses on family and how family isn’t always borne from blood. Ling Xiao, He Zi Qiu, and Li Jian Jian are three children who aren’t related to each other but are brought up as siblings by Jian Jian and Ling Xiao’s fathers. They support each other through hardships and encourage each other to achieve their dreams. As they graduate high school, they are pulled apart by familial duties and expectations, only to come back together in their adulthood and we see how time and distance has changed their relationships with each other.
3. Go Go Squid! (2019)
A famous cover artist, Tong Nian, falls for Han Shang Yan the moment he walks into the computer shop where she’s working that day. Her self-confidence and outgoing approach is suddenly forgotten as she becomes shy around this genius computer engineer and legend in the gaming community. The fact that he is cold and hard to reach doesn’t really help, but Tong Nian perseveres and finally gets close to Shang Yan.
4. Love O2O (2016)
Xiao Nai is a gaming expert, an incredible athlete, and president of a gaming company. He falls in love with a gorgeous but dorky computer science major Bei Wei Wei. But it’s not her looks that attracts him to her, it’s her competence and mastery in commanding her guild. He must use both his real-life skills and his gaming skills to win her heart.
5. Take My Brother Away (2018)
Shi Miao is often annoyed and teased by her brother, Shi Fen. She constantly wishes that he would just leave her alone, but as with all families, when push comes to shove, your brother will always have your back. It’s a nice glimpse into a normal sibling relationship. While they can be annoying most of the time, they will always be there to catch you when you fall.
