Resiliency and moving forward are phrases that are no strangers to Filipinos. Those words themselves bring hope and relief from all the pain and worries that were built up amidst all the hardship we faced. From battling the pandemic crisis to news on wars abroad and economic emergencies, we learned to stand up and face the challenges with heads up high.
Stories about hope have tugged our heartstrings and have given us a brand new perspective during the post-crisis conversations. A platform for these stories has been the ultimate goal of Manila Bulletin’s UPLIFT 2023. Now in its 2nd year, they are still committed to sharing and highlighting the stories of our fellow Filipinos and giving honor to those who gave us hope that we never knew we needed.
Public service, Big Business, MSMEs, Sports, Arts, Culture, and Education, Entertainment, Agriculture, Science, and Technology, E-commerce, and Healthcare comprise this year’s UPLIFT. The editors of Manila Bulletin then carefully decided which stories fit not only the categories but also UPLIFT’s acronym: to Unite, to Perform, to Lead, to Inspire, to bring Focus, and to Trend.
The final lists of awardees were thought thoroughly by the Board of Judges, chaired by President Dr. Emilio C. Yap III, and was joined by Atty. Emmeline Aglipay-Villar, Dr. Jaime Laya, Philip Cu-Unjieng, and David Guerrero. The awards night was held last March 28, 2023, at the Manila Hotel and was attended by various guests, and of course, our awardees.
This year’s UPLIFT awardees are pillars of hope and catalysts of good news that bring us comfort when we read their stories. Here is the full list of awardees for UPLIFT 2023: TUPAD Program of the Department of Labor and Employment (Public Service); The SM Group (Big Business); Zennor Hydroponics Farm (MSMEs); Dolly de Leon (Entertainment); Carlos Yulo (Sports); Development of Clonal Propagation Protocols for Native Forest and Fruit-Bearing Tree Species of Quirino and Nearby Provinces by Quirino State University (Science and Technology); City Government of Lapu Lapu (E-Commerce by Gcash, Excellence in Adoption to Government Initiatives); Jocelyn Mamar (Agriculture); Chef Rafael Jadaleza Jr. (Arts, Culture, and Education); and Lifeline 16-911 Medical Inc. (Healthcare).
In uncertain times where there’s conflict aboard, economic crisis, and even the persisting threat of a virus, it is their stories that give us hope and look forward to a better tomorrow. They uplift the Filipino people and give them the strength to move forward.
