Uplifting the Filipino Spirit: The Manila Bulletin’s UPLIFT Awards 2023

Resiliency and moving forward are phrases that are no strangers to Filipinos. Those words themselves bring hope and relief from all the pain and worries that were built up amidst all the hardship we faced. From battling the pandemic crisis to news on wars abroad and economic emergencies, we learned to stand up and face the challenges with heads up high.

Stories about hope have tugged our heartstrings and have given us a brand new perspective during the post-crisis conversations. A platform for these stories has been the ultimate goal of Manila Bulletin’s UPLIFT 2023. Now in its 2nd year, they are still committed to sharing and highlighting the stories of our fellow Filipinos and giving honor to those who gave us hope that we never knew we needed.

Public service, Big Business, MSMEs, Sports, Arts, Culture, and Education, Entertainment, Agriculture, Science, and Technology, E-commerce, and Healthcare comprise this year’s UPLIFT. The editors of Manila Bulletin then carefully decided which stories fit not only the categories but also UPLIFT’s acronym: to Unite, to Perform, to Lead, to Inspire, to bring Focus, and to Trend.

The final lists of awardees were thought thoroughly by the Board of Judges, chaired by President Dr. Emilio C. Yap III, and was joined by Atty. Emmeline Aglipay-Villar, Dr. Jaime Laya, Philip Cu-Unjieng, and David Guerrero. The awards night was held last March 28, 2023, at the Manila Hotel and was attended by various guests, and of course, our awardees.
