Mr. and Ms. Chinatown Global PH, Profiles, Stories

Yna Uy Kept Showing Up

The Ms. Chinatown Global Philippines 2026 grand winner on pursuing a lifelong dream, bringing her fashion advocacy to a bigger platform, and putting in the work.

Yna was one of the last to audition at the ABS-CBN casting for Mr. and Ms. Chinatown Global Philippines. She had been pursuing opportunities like this since she was young, and throughout the competition, she would share stories about growing up with castings, auditions, and the struggles that came with wanting to become a star.

Yna Uy arrived at the ABS-CBN casting ready to give a long-held ambition another chance.

She arrived with achievements of her own, including winning Supermodel Universe International 2025 in China, alongside business ventures and entertainment projects. Hearing her sing and seeing her perform, it was easy to imagine the possibilities ahead of her. Spending time around her revealed the persistence required to pursue them.

Yna attended workshops alongside her other commitments, including GMA Pictures’ Red Crown, which opened in cinemas on October 28. Sometimes she changed clothes on the way to an appearance or in a restaurant restroom, finding ways to get herself to the next activity. After rehearsals, she could be seen steaming her own clothes, preparing for what came next. Watching her make that effort, even on the busiest days, made it clear how much she wanted to be there.

Her work ethic became as apparent as her talent. She wanted to win, and the effort behind that ambition was there for people to see.

A Dream That Started Early

Before the titles and projects, Yna was a choir member joining singing competitions. Singing, dancing, and acting workshops helped develop her abilities, although performing did not mean she always felt comfortable putting herself forward.

“And despite all that, I was actually very shy and conservative. I hesitated to step out of my comfort zone. That’s why now I make it a point to tackle every single goal on my bucket list.”

Her interests had always stretched across different fields. Education took priority for a time, leaving passions she would later want to revisit, while each new experience helped her understand what she wanted to pursue.

“While I always knew I was meant to pursue multiple passions rather than just one path, I still had to explore and experience different things along the way to discover who I truly was.”

Winning an international modeling title gave her something to build on, but MMCGPH offered an opportunity she specifically wanted. A platform where her heritage, artistry, and advocacy could become part of the same work.

Making Time for It

Already Supermodel Universe International 2025, she joined MMCGPH hoping to bring greater attention to her advocacy.

Over two months, pursuing that opportunity meant fitting public appearances, rehearsals, and workshops around responsibilities that continued outside the competition. There were days when getting to an activity required a change of clothes on the road, and evenings when rehearsals ended with more preparation to do.

Seeing her steam her own clothes offered a more personal view of what went into each appearance. The finished look was what people would photograph, but Yna was willing to handle the tasks that made it possible.

Asked what those demands had taught her, she spoke about finding ways to keep working toward a clear goal.

“Instead, it pushes you to double your efforts and find ways to manage everything so you can reach the goal that you’re aiming for.”

Faith also helped her commit. She prayed for guidance before beginning the competition, trusting that the dream she had carried was worth acting on.

“I always had this inner vision that I could make it happen as long as I trusted myself and kept my faith in God.”

Fashion With a Purpose

Workshops, film commitments, and changes of clothes on the go—Yna found ways to show up.

Her advocacy gave that ambition another direction. Yna wants to preserve Asian fashion artistry while promoting size inclusivity, encouraging people to appreciate the work behind a garment and consider who gets to feel represented by it.

“It stemmed from observing the fashion landscape and wanting to raise awareness about the rich artistry, intricate craftsmanship, and cultural heritage embedded in every garment.”

She had already begun putting those ideas into practice through Asia World Fashion Week, a concept she developed the previous year to give emerging Asian designers a platform. Her work on the brand Versa offers another avenue for exploring how those ideas can reach people through what they wear.

“And as an entrepreneur myself, my goal is to connect people to their roots through wearable art while simultaneously championing size inclusivity so that everyone feels seen, confident, and celebrated.”

Letting the Moment Sink In

When Yna was announced as Ms. Chinatown Global Philippines 2026, the result took time to register. Her first thoughts were of God and everything she had gone through to reach that stage, followed by her late best friend, whom she calls “my dude.”

“I just knew he was watching over me from above, and I could deeply feel his presence on stage with me.”

Once home, she ate a heavy meal, showered, and went through messages and Instagram Stories to thank the people who had supported her. After weeks of preparing for the next commitment, she could begin taking in what she had achieved.

“And what was once just a dream in my heart is now a reality.”

Now Miss Chinatown Global Philippines 2026, Yna is returning to passions she once set aside for her education.

She wants to return to passions she once set aside for her education and continue growing as an artist and a beauty queen who gives back. Her hope is that pursuing those interests will encourage others to revisit dreams they have postponed, too.

The title gives Yna a larger audience for her talents and advocacy, but the determination that brought her here was visible before Winners’ Night. It was there when she auditioned at ABS-CBN, when she made it to workshops after other commitments, and when she prepared her outfits after rehearsals. She had spent years seeking opportunities to show what she could do. Now, with more people watching, she has a chance to take that work further.
