Century Park Hotel, a storied landmark in Manila’s hospitality scene, is undergoing a transformative renaissance thanks to the dynamic duo of Edrick and Isabella Luy. Grandchildren of the Chinoy business magnate Lucio Tan, Edrick, and Isabella are infusing new life into this iconic establishment, ensuring its appeal to a younger, more diverse clientele while honoring its rich history.
A Vision for Modernization
Edrick Luy, who joined Century Park Hotel as a marketing consultant in 2020, has been pivotal in driving this transformation. “The hotel was looking for a fresh way to market itself to the younger audience,” Edrick explains. Historically, Century Park Hotel attracted an older demographic. Edrick’s mission has been to broaden this appeal by modernizing the hotel’s offerings and marketing strategies. His primary lesson from his grandfather has been the importance of teamwork. “No man is an island. You need to find the right people to help you bring your vision to life,” he shares.

One of the most notable changes under Edrick’s leadership is the renovation of Palm Grove. “We wanted to create an oasis, a paradise inside the city,” he says. The revamped Palm Grove now boasts a kiddie pool, a new alfresco bar, and air-conditioned spaces to ensure comfort. Small but impactful details, like improved pool tiles and the addition of cabanas, enhance the guest experience. Replacing the old, unsightly birdcage with stylish cabanas that can accommodate up to 12 people has transformed the area into a relaxing retreat.
Creative Flair and Cultural Fusion
Isabella Luy, a marketing consultant of Century Park Hotel, brings her creative expertise to the hotel’s redesign. Her passion for interior design and creating vibrant social spaces is evident in the new look of the hotel’s bars and restaurants. Isabella’s innovative approach shines through her favorite menu item, Bella’s Burger—actually a chicken wing served with gravy instead of the usual mayo and ketchup. “In college, it was the only thing I ate,” she laughs, highlighting how personal touches contribute to the hotel’s unique charm.

For Isabella, blending her Chinese and Filipino heritage has been instrumental in shaping her vision. “Growing up in ICA, seeing our two cultures blend seamlessly together really helped me get the best of both worlds,” she notes. Her goal for the hotel has always been to create spaces where friends and family can gather comfortably, day or night. The new bar at Palm Grove is inspired by Bali and is designed to transition effortlessly from a family-friendly daytime spot to a lively evening hangout.
Collaborative Success
The transformation of Century Park Hotel is a testament to the collaborative effort of the entire team. Edrick emphasizes that the success of the renovations is due to the contributions of various departments, including EJS Corporation, the engineering team, the food and beverage director, and the head chef. “We really wanted to create this big oasis for everyone, and I think we succeeded,” Edrick reflects.
Isabella echoes this sentiment, stressing the importance of listening to everyone’s ideas. “To be a good leader is to be a good listener,” she says, a lesson she attributes to her grandfather. This inclusive approach has allowed the team to craft a holistic experience that appeals to a wide range of guests.
A Bright Future Ahead
As Century Park Hotel nears its 50th anniversary, the efforts of Isabella and Edrick Luy signal a bright future for this beloved institution. The newly opened Palm Grove, with its inviting pools and stylish bar, is just the beginning. The soon-to-be-opened Tanduay Gym promises even more amenities for guests to enjoy.
Edrick invites everyone to experience the revitalized Century Park Hotel. “Spend one night here, maybe on a Friday or Saturday. You’ll feel like you’re in Bali without the plane tickets,” he enthuses. Isabella also encourages guests to explore the new features. “We invite all of you to try the new food, the new drinks, and the new place,” she says.
With their innovative ideas and commitment to excellence, Isabella and Edrick Luy are preserving the legacy of Century Park Hotel and propelling it into an exciting new era. Their work ensures that this historic hotel remains a cherished destination for generations.
