Ne Zha 2, the animated sequel that took the world by storm is finally arriving in the Philippines on March 12. The follow up to the hit fantasy-adventure film, Ne Zha, Ne Zha 2 has already surpassed multiple records, becoming the highest-grossing animated film of all time at US$1.9 billion. It’s also the first non-American, non-English language animated film to hold the title. Ne Zha 2 also currently holds the record for the highest-grossing film in a single territory, achieving this goal in less than two weeks of its release.
Nezha 2 continues after Ne Zha and Ao Bing have their bodies destroyed by heavenly lightning, surviving as spirits. Ne Zha’s mentor, Master Taiyi, rebuilds their corporeal form using the Sacred Lotus, but as they are recovering, new challenges arise that threaten the balance of the realms.
Ne Zha and Ao Bing are reincarnations of two opposite components of the Chaos Pearl, with Ne Zha being born of the Demon Orb, and Ao Bing the Spirit Pearl. The Demon Orb has given Ne Zha supernatural powers and control of flame, matching his chaotic and rude personality. On the other hand, the Spirit Pearl has given Ao Bing powers of ice, that complement his calm and kind nature.
