Movies can bring joy, laughter and excitement to people. But sometimes, there are also some movies that are made to make you cry. We often find ourselves wanting to watch touching and tearjerker movies to vent out our emotions. Genres such romance is surely one of those genres that could make you bawl your eyes out. These touching romantic movies tell the story of people who showed the greatness of love and their sacrifices. So without further ado, here are 5 Chinese tearjerker movies to watch that’ll surely bawl your eyes out! 

1) Somewhere Winter (大约在冬季) 

The film tells the story of the talented college student named An Ran from Beijing Normal University and a Taiwanese photographer, Qi Xiao, who met at a concert in 1991 and eventually fell in love. But this passionate love story has repeatedly encountered numerous separations due to misunderstandings, unexpected changes and time.  

2) More Than Blue (比悲傷更悲傷的故事) 

More Than Blue is a remake of the famous Korean film of the same name. The plot tells the story of a record producer, K and a lyricist, Cream who became very close to each other after they lost their families in high school. Although they have been living together for 10 years, and are highly dependent on each other, both of them never admitted they were lovers. As the story progresses, K was diagnosed with leukemia, thus, is hesitant to reveal his illness because he does not want to hurt Cream by leaving her alone. Later on, he decided to find a trusted and faithful man who can take care and be with Cream till the end. 

3) Us and Them (后来的我们) 

Us and Them tells the story of a pair of young lovers who met on the train on their way home during Chinese New Year. Carrying a common dream, the two worked hard together in Beijing, and began an emotional road of reunion as well as leading them to numerous breakups and misunderstandings. Destiny seems to be a cycle as their fate crosses again ten years later, meeting up again by chance on the plane. 

4) Hear Me (聽說) 

Released in 2009, Hear Me tells a beautiful love story caused by misunderstanding between a pair of young lovers who think each other is deaf and mute. This movie vividly interprets what silent love is which makes the viewers very touched and moved.

5) Under the Hawthorn Tree  ( 山楂树之恋) 

As the name suggests, this movie tells a touching love story that takes place with a hawthorn tree in a small village in Yichang City, Hubei Province.  Set during China’s Cultural Revolution, Under the Hawthorn Tree tells the story of a poor city girl named Jing Qiu and who met a talented and handsome young village boy named Lao San who had a promising future due to his father’s military background. Because of Jing Qiu’s poor family background, Jing Qiu felt very inferior, and the difference in their  social backgrounds has caused several misunderstandings and obstacles but despite that, Lao Shan is willing to do anything for Jing Qiu.
