In a recent interview with CGTV, the English-language news channel of China Global Television Network, Alvin Kingson Tan, President and CEO of CHiNOY TV in the Philippines, shared his insights on regional collaboration and the future of Asia’s economic integration. Against the backdrop of the Boao Forum’s optimistic economic growth projections for Asia, Tan emphasized the significance of strengthening partnerships within the region, particularly in emerging industries such as green energy and the digital economy.

Leveraging Economic Growth for Sustainable Development

Tan underscored the Philippines’ potential to harness the ongoing economic momentum in the Global South. With a young, tech-savvy population and an expanding innovation hub, the country is poised to collaborate with China and other Asian nations to propel advancements in green energy and digital infrastructure.

“The Philippines has a unique opportunity to ride the wave of economic momentum across the Global South,” Tan stated. “By tapping into China’s leadership in renewable technology and digital infrastructure, and with the Philippines being called the tech capital of the world, we can accelerate our own development through knowledge exchange, investment, and joint innovation.”

According to Tan, knowledge exchange, investments, and joint innovation efforts can drive sustainable and inclusive economic development, fostering long-term stability and progress across the region. “These emerging sectors offer new inclusive growth areas that are aligned with a more sustainable and future-focused economic vision.”

Strengthening Non-Governmental and Cultural Exchanges

When asked about enhancing bilateral cooperation between China and the Philippines within frameworks like the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), Tan stressed the importance of cultural and people-to-people exchanges.

“I think cultural understanding is key to long-term cooperation,” Tan said. “Being part of CHiNOY TV, I’ve seen how powerful storytelling, heritage preservation, and people-to-people exchanges are integral in building lasting trust between nations.”

He suggested initiatives such as cultural media co-productions, student exchange programs, and business forums tailored for next-generation entrepreneurs. “These non-governmental interactions humanize our shared history and inject fresh energy into regional integration.”

Creating a Stable Environment for Asia’s Economic Future

Tan emphasized that Asia’s collective strength lies in collaboration. He pointed out that enhancing regional cooperation, particularly in supply chain management and digital trade, is crucial to unlocking new opportunities for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and young innovators.

“By strengthening cooperation in this field, we can do cross-border e-commerce and unlock new opportunities for SMEs and young innovators,” Tan noted. “It’s also important that we align our goals, not just from the government level, but also in the private sector, like in digital payments, customs processes, and tech standards. This way, we can create a stable and resilient environment that benefits everyone in the region.”

A Vision for Regional Synergy

As Asia continues to expand its economic influence, regional collaboration remains at the forefront of sustainable growth. Alvin Kingson Tan’s insights reaffirm the importance of strategic partnerships, cultural connectivity, and public-private cooperation in forging a prosperous future for the region.

With initiatives like the BRI and RCEP facilitating economic synergy, Tan’s vision for Asia underscores the potential of deeper regional integration to drive innovation, economic resilience, and shared prosperity across borders.
