Tech: The iconic motorola returns to the Philippine mobile phone market

It is the much-awaited comeback that many tech enthusiasts have been longing for. After a few years of hiatus, the iconic motorola brand is making a big return and it is not leaving behind one of the most important smartphone markets in Asia—the Philippines.

motorola is re-introducing its brand with two new devices—the motorola razr 5G and the moto g 5G plus. Both smartphones combine many new firsts with the classic features that have long gained the admiration of motorola fans in the country. The brand brings back the iconic clamshell design that is reminiscent of the early 2000s and integrates it with the blazing-fast 5G connectivity. Both will be available locally in December 2020.

Lenovo and Motorola both recognize the need to constantly innovate in this industry,” Lenovo Philippines President and General manager Michael Ngan said. “The iconic clamshell design of the original razr was way ahead of its time and made motorola not only one of the biggest tech brands globally but also a pop culture icon.”

motorola was an American brand before it was completely acquired by Chinese PC maker Lenovo from Google in October 2014.

“With our vision, Smarter Technology for All, we aim at delivering smarter devices through innovative designs that perfectly meet consumer needs. Combining motorola’s rich history with Lenovo’s innovation, we can create a unique smartphone experience that features only the latest technology that matters the most to our customers,” Ngan added.

Motorola razr 5G

The iconic ‘flip’ design, which razr pioneered is back—better than ever via the motorola razr 5G. Its new hinge leaves no space in between when folded closed, making the smartphone as slim and compact as it could possibly be. This design also makes it more protected against dust and other types of debris.

Additionally, the hinge, which is built to last, is designed to also flip open using just a single hand. The device even has ample sturdiness to stay firm while open.

While folded, users can utilize the razr 5G’s external 2.7-inch Quick View display that can now do more than just tell time and notify of incoming calls or messages. With the phone’s Android 10 OS, users can swipe up to access the home screen, right to use the camera, or left to call contacts and run apps. Off the bat, users can utilize eight apps pre-selected within the Quick View display, but Lenovo and motorola are also giving the freedom to customize and choose which app to quickly access without opening the phone.

When it’s unfolded, users can enjoy the razr 5G’s 6.2-inch Flex View display. It’s composed of five layers designed to fold in concert with the new hinge system and includes a custom protective hard coat with a material that creates a barrier to protect against spills, splashes, rain, and more. The new display has a tapered chin, a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, and is made up of polished 3D glass with a 7000 series aluminum frame that gives a distinguished, eye-catching look in Polished Graphite.

While holding the razr 5G horizontally, films and videos come to life through the display’s CinemaVision technology which brings in 21:9 resolution quality, the same ultra-wide dimensions used in the film industry. Speaking of visuals, users can enjoy crystal-clear photos with the razr 5G’s 48MP camera with Quad Pixel technology that captures sharp, vibrant photos, even in low-light conditions. Flipping the razr 5G closed also leads to new photo opportunities through its many camera modes.

To cap it off, the razr 5G comes with four antennas that allow a 5G connection that can download content in just a few seconds. Combined with Qualcomm®’s brand-new Snapdragon™ 765 processor, the razr 5G provides powerful performance and incredible efficiency when it comes to browsing, streaming, or shopping online.

The motorola razr comes at a price tag of P72,990.

Moto g 5G plus

motorola and Lenovo break boundaries again through the mid-range smartphone moto g 5G plus. This new device is currently the most affordable 5G-enabled smartphone available in the country—at just P16,990! Thus, it is aligned with Lenovo’s mission to provide smarter technology for everyone and to deliver devices that can provide access to better opportunities, greater connectivity, and the ability to overcome limitations.

Coming in a 6.7-inch display, the moto g 5G plus also has CinemaVision which allows the phone to show movies in their full 21:9 cinematic beauty. The display has a 90Hz screen refresh rate and an HDR10 feature that reduces screen tearing and displays motion smoother than ever while also delivering sharp contrast and vibrant colors. Furthermore, the phone has the Snapdragon™ 765 processor, making it one of the few mid-tier phones to possess one.

What sets apart the moto g 5G plus is its innovative six-camera setup which content creators are sure to enjoy. At the front, there’s an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 16MP Quad Pixel camera that’s perfect for selfies taken during the day or night. Its sensor captures the smallest details and can even deliver four times better light sensitivity than other cameras.

Meanwhile, the back features four cameras led by the 48MP Quad Pixel camera, an 8MP ultra-wide camera, a 5MP camera with a macro lens, and a 2MP depth sensor camera. Users can snap to their hearts’ content on any occasion, thanks to the many shooting modes presented, such as Long Exposure, Spot Color, Auto Smile Capture, and AI Shot Optimization that uses Artificial Intelligence to automatically select the right settings to help capture the perfect memory.
