In the wake of the devastation wreaked by Typhoons Rolly (internationally known as Goni) and Ulysses (Vamco), Hong Kong has come to the aid of the Philippines by helping Kaisa Para Sa Kaunlaran (菲律濱華裔青年聯合會), a non-government organization (NGO), in its relief operations.
The Hong Kong disaster relief fund (DRF) released emergency assistance amounting to HK$525,000 (roughly ₱3,270,000) to Kaisa Para Sa Kaunlaran, a Tsinoy NGO in the Philippines, for its typhoon relief. The fund assistance was facilitated by the Amity Foundation of Hong Kong (香港愛德基金會), Kaisa’s active partner in calamity relief since 2009. The two previously worked together to help victims of typhoons Ondoy (Ketsana, 2009), Habagat southwest monsoon flooding (2012), Yolanda (Haiyan, 2013), and Ompong (Mangkhut, 2018).
Kaisa president Michael Chen Guzman and programs director Anabel Chua Lim, together with Action of Christian Churches Together (ACTs) Philippines Forum and the National Council of Churches in the Philippines, recently distributed packs of relief goods for 1,200 families in Brgy. San Jose, Rodriguez, Rizal. Each family received 10 kgs of rice, 1 kg mongo, 20 pieces canned goods, 8 packs of noodles, 1 pack of milk and 6 liters of distilled water.
Amity Hong Kong and its headquarters, Amity Foundation in Nanjing. have been a long-time partners of Kaisa in disaster relief and other worthy social assistance causes like the provision of PPEs for frontliners during the 2020 global SARS-Cov-2 pandemic and the provision of motorized boats to affected fisherfolks in the coastal towns of Iloilo after Typhoon Yolanda.
