We all need something to look forward to especially during this time of pandemic, which has put many Halloween plans on hold, from visiting haunted houses to trick-or-treating, dressing up to hanging out with friends. Halloween may be canceled this year, but this doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate in our little ways.

Are you set to attend any online Halloween costume party in the coming days? Here are some unique Chinese-inspired Halloween costumes to consider!

 

1. Landlady from ‘Kung Fu Hustle’

Remember this iconic character in Kung Fu Hustle? In a town full of crooks and thugs, she is known by all as the toughest woman, middle-aged, chain-smoking Landlady (Yuen Qiu) of Pig Sty Alley. Her effective weapons include the ‘Lion’s Roar’ strategy, the ‘Roadrunner’s ability’ to fly, and red slippers. The landlady runs the slum with an iron hand. To pull off the look, all you need is a white or pink duster dress combined with hair curlers, a pair of slides, and a newspaper.

2. Chun Li

Chun-Li is a character in Capcom‘s Street Fighter video game series. She is a woman with a deep sense of justice, and her motivations vary from avenging her father’s death to defending innocents and fighting crime. In the Street Fighter game, Chun-Li’s appearance has varied many times. Out of all the looks, her blue sexy Cheongsam dress is the most popular, paired with white hair buns as an accessory.

3. Crazy Rich Asian

In 2018, the much-anticipated movie Crazy Rich Asians movie became an international sensation. As a reported sequel arrives soon, one way to celebrate is to honor the film’s fashion extravaganza. It has been named the fashion movie of the year, after all. From the diamond dripping look to luxurious branded bags; head-to-toe Moncler to million-dollar earrings, there are a variety of ways to dress the part!

Pucca is a Chinese restaurant owner’s daughter, who is also deeply in love with a 12-year-old ninja boy named Garu. Garu is a dedicated ninja with a stern attitude in training; he does not speak and is often distracted by Pucca’s frequent affection and kisses of admiration.

Who says lion dances can only be performed during Chinese festivities? If you’re looking for something special or maybe a costume to add extra good luck and fortune, a lion dance costume may just be it! Two dancers usually perform the Chinese lion dance, one of whom manipulates the head while the other shapes the tail end of the lion. You can wear it as a headpiece or even simply pull it off through a DIY cut-out box.
