With the COVID-19 pandemic affecting livelihoods of all walks of life, CHiNOY TV kickstarted the #CHiNOYTVSupportsLocal series to give an avenue for local businesses to be featured!
Today’s entry showcases the different meat shops where you can buy from to prep for your next big dinner at home! Whether it’s the family favorite barbecue to the classic steak, there’s a lot of choices for meat lovers out there.
ASIAN FRIDGE MNL
Consisting of a husband-wife couple and the husband’s sister, the founder of Asian Fridge MNL had been pondering on doing business since early 2019. They aimed to create a shop that offers ready-to-cook meals while still having a home-cooked vibe without tasting like instant or fast food meals. With a selection of Asian cuisines such as Filipino, Taiwanese, and Korean food, Asian Fridge MNL intends to grow their product choices by integrating their recipes and marinades with the selections they offer.
WHAT TO TRY: Fit for grand family feasts at home, the founders recommend their large meat selection such as their Samgyupsal, Porkloin, Beef Sukiyaki, Beef Belly, and Hotpot Balls.
Chokoy’s BBQ had humble beginnings for its founding family, from receiving money from different avenues to start up the business and buy supplies to borrowing their neighbors’ abandoned griller to begin cooking the barbeque. They finally opened on Mother’s Day 2020 where they cooked and sold barbeques around the neighborhood. Within the first 100 days of business, they managed to sell 100 kg of meat. With an expanded menu comes more work, with the family taking on different roles and venturing to more cities to serve their delicious, scrumptious barbeque to happy customers.
WHAT TO TRY: The titular Chokoy’s BBQ is soft, meaty, juicy, clean, and perfectly grilled for a dinner to end and celebrate the day.
As a hobby, couple Israel and Jennie loved cooking and eating steaks at home. Co-founder Israel studied culinary and initially pursued it as a career, but had to stop due to medical reasons. With the pandemic hitting, he rekindled his passion and began cooking and eating steaks at home with his wife, Jennie. The couple used this newfound hobby to start Toque’s Turf in July, where they served steak meals for family and friends. Although they had doubts about how others would react to delivered hanger steaks, their fears were quelled with positive reactions from the people they loved. Now in their second month, Toque’s Turf has grown with orders from outside their family and friend circles, ready to serve their tasty hanger steak meals cooked with love.
WHAT TO TRY: Their Hanger Steaks are infused with herbs and spices that are seared to perfection to meet all your steak cravings. Pair it up with sides like tomato, marbled potatoes, and french beans, as well as their gravy or chimichurri sauces for the full steak experience!
PREMIUM MEATS MNL
The founders had this opportunity even before the pandemic started, but they weren’t able to grow the idea together. Weeks after the lockdowns were imposed, they re-grouped and discussed how they could sell high-quality, premium meats. At the same time, they wanted to give opportunities to others who wish to resell their items. This led to them finally establishing Premium Meats MNL, which features a large selection of meat prepped for a variety of world cuisines.
WHAT TO TRY: Among the large selection of juicy meat, they recommend their US Angus Top Choice Ribeye, US Angus Top Choice Porterhouse, Brazilian Grassfed Ribeye, “Boracay” Chori Burger, Arabiki Japanese Sausage, and Saikoro Wagyu Cubes.
