Wang Yibo Released Record-breaking Single ‘The Rules of My World’

Just as last year was about to end, one of China’s biggest stars decided to drop a single that would sell more than 7.5 million copies within the first fifteen minutes of its release.

Wang Yibo, best known for his starring roles in The Untamed and Legend of Fei, ended 2020 with a bang —or more specifically, his new rhythmic hip-hop track “我的世界守则,” which can be translated to The Rules of My World.

Despite being announced just days before its December 30 release, The Rules of My World broke the record for being the fastest digital single to accumulate a sales volume of over 10 million copies on Chinese music streaming service, NetEase. The feat was accomplished in just 2 hours and 20 minutes, surpassing Wang Yibo’s 2019 record of reaching 10 million copies with his The Untamed OST “无感” or “No Feelings” in 10 hours and 48 minutes.

Prior to being recognized for his acting, Wang Yibo was also widely popular for his work as an idol singer and dancer, being a member of popular K-Pop group, UNIQ, before branching out to solo activities in the Chinese Mainland. As a result, it comes as no surprise that his new track bears a sound similar to that of the Korean pop genre.

This is because the song was not only created by Korean producer, Lee Sang Kyu, but also partially composed and arranged by Vince and 24, who are under the YG Entertainment subsidiary label, The Black Label. YG Entertainment is especially known for managing globally popular Korean acts, Blackpink, 2NE1, and Big Bang, among many others.

In addition to this, The Rules of My World is also notable for being penned by Wang Yibo himself, conveying his thoughts about positively facing life, the outside world, and a brighter future — a worldview that he wanted to share at the end of 2020.

Ending the year on a bright note, Wang Yibo performed his new upbeat track on Hunan TV’s 2021 New Year Countdown Concert to happily screaming crowds.
