DLSU Manila’s ENGLICOM Celebrates Chinese New Year Online

ENGLICOM, the premiere Filipino-Chinese socio-civic organization of De La Salle University Manila (DLSU-M), will hold a week-long virtual celebration from March 1-5, 2021 to welcome the Year of the Ox. Spearheaded by the ENGLICOM Chinese New Year Central Committee (CENCOMM), this year’s celebration will be one for the books.

The weeklong event will begin with a mass and a lion dance to honor the Chinese tradition. The CENCOMM has also prepared other activities such as virtual Ox-themed game rooms, raffles with exciting prizes, a live horoscope consultation with a professional, and even a live ‘mukbang’ or eating show of popular dim sum and sides.

The celebration will end with a Culminating Night wherein grand prizes will be given and performances from Lasallian talents will be showcased. Lasallians will still get to experience and immerse themselves in the Chinese Culture through this virtual fun-filled and engaging  celebration.

ENGLICOM, founded in 1964, has been promoting the Chinese culture within the Lasallian community since its establishment. With the extensive number of Filipino-Chinese students in the university, their organizational vision has touched the hearts of many.

For over 55 years, ENGLICOM upholds its vision through activities and events aimed to appreciate, understand, and foster the Chinese culture while at the same time training its members to become excellent leaders of the community. One of its biggest and most-awaited university-wide events is the annual celebration of the Chinese New Year where Lasallians coming from all kinds of cultural backgrounds get together and celebrate as one community.

The CENCOMM is Ox-cited to share to Lasallians and non-Lasallians what they’ve been working on for the past few months. This year’s celebration may be different, but the meaning remains the same.
